Why do you need to go back into the Dead Sea.

Swimming in the Dead Sea in Israel can be at least unpleasant and at least fatal, if you do not follow certain rules. Travelers who have already been there explain how to safely enjoy this natural wonder.

At first glance, the Dead Sea looks like a picture from a dream or from a tourist catalog. Passing through the desert Judean plain, the traveler sees the turquoise blue silent water appearing behind the sand dune. Every day, thousands of tourists reach this unique place. But not everyone knows about the danger that lurks in this wonderful pond. In fact, the water of the Dead Sea is so poisonous that people can die by taking a few large sips.

Reason: the water here has a huge salt content, more than 30%. For comparison: in the Mediterranean salt is only 3%. For this reason, in the Dead Sea you can swim on the water or read a newspaper on the surface. However, a high concentration of minerals affects the human body as a poison.

In order to avoid the bad consequences of swimming, tourists must follow the instructions of the rescuers and adhere to certain rules that apply to public beaches and posted on information boards.

The official rules for safe navigation on the Dead Sea:

It is advisable to go into the water with your back and dive very slowly, lying on your back. A huge concentration of minerals in the water will not let you drown.
You can’t swim on your stomach. However, you are unlikely to succeed, since the human body acquires the effect of cork in these waters – you will be pushed to the surface or turned over onto your back all the time. By the way, it’s very convenient: you can just lie on the surface of the water or even read.
Do not try to dive or get your feet under the bottom: you must be very careful in the Dead Sea. Diving and somersaults are not allowed. The risk is the possibility of poisoning when water enters the mouth and mucous membrane of the eyes.
Do not attempt to swim outside the permitted swimming area. On some beaches, such as En Bokek, you can swim relatively far. In other parts of the coast, for example, in the area of Kalia beach, the bathing area is very limited. This limitation makes sense: in some places, the salt content is higher than in others, and the buoyancy is reduced.
It is necessary to drink a lot of water: lying in the water, many often forget that they are still in the desert. Humidity is very low, and the temperature is high (in early summer, even on colder days, the temperature is at least 35 ° C, in mid-summer it can reach 50 ° C), and in addition, salt water dries. Therefore, you need to be very careful, drink plenty of water and stay on the Dead Sea for a maximum of three hours.
It will be useful to take beach shoes with you: because of the extremely high salt content in the Dead Sea, salt crystals form on its shore, which can be sharp. In addition, the soil, especially in dirty places, can be very slippery. Shoes will protect your feet and prevent falling.
Those who adhere to these rules have nothing to fear in the Dead Sea.

And, of course, one should not panic: a small amount of water on the lips will not lead to poisoning. So it is recommended that you keep your mouth closed, let the water carry you and enjoy the silky feel on your skin.
