Sunken ship “Baron Gauch”
The story of how the elegant Baron Gauch passenger liner went under water during World War II partially recalls the fate of the Titanic. The ship began its last journey from Kotor, Montenegro, heading to the port of Trieste. The ship was transporting refugees and military personnel. The fate of the vehicle is very tragic and associated with a stupid mistake: while the ship’s captain was sleeping, his deputy was having lunch, an inexperienced intern ignored the warning about the minefield laid down by the Austro-Hungarian troops. Killed 147 people. The liner crashed 40 kilometers from Brijuni Island. This place is popular with divers Pula and Porec. Continue reading
